outside the box

Performance, ink

outside the box was presented inside of a glass vitrine at Assembly Point, Southbank in July 2019. In this work, I entered the vitrine every day to record my stream of consciousness (thoughts) by using an ink pen. I wrote onto the vitrine’s glass, ceiling and floor. I practiced an hour a day for the entire exhibition period of 31 days (28 June – 28 July 2019).

The colour of the vitrine turned darker every day as I overwrote on top of the previous content. This made the viewers standing outside the box hard to grasp the meaning of my writings. Eventually, the appearance of the vitrine slowly turned into a black box that the viewers could only see their own reflections on the glass without recognising the content of my writing and my physical existence inside of the box.
